The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
