The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael - Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabari]. 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
