He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
