The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Imagine such men not that they shall be raised up? 4 on a great day 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 And what will make you know what the Sijjin is? 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 who cry lies to the Day of Doom; 11 for, none gives the lie to it but such as are wont to transgress against all that is [and are] immersed in sin: 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 Then, verily they will indeed enter and taste the burning flame of Hell. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones. 18 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - 19 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Verily, Al-Abrar (the pious who fear Allah and avoid evil) will be in delight (Paradise). 22 On couches, gazing, 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink [pure] wine [which was] sealed. 25 The sealing of it is (with) musk; and for that let the aspirers aspire. 26 With it will be (given) a mixture of Tasnim: 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 When they returned to their people they returned jesting; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 But on this Day the believers will laugh at the unbelievers 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
True are the words of God the Almighty.
