The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
