Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
