a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
