The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 'We feed you only for the Face of God; we desire no recompense from you, no thankfulness; 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold. 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
