And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 He fled to the overloaded ship. 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, 143 He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. 146 Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How judge ye? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Bring your Book, if you speak truly! 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 (They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him, 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And we are they who exalt (Allah)' 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 [That] indeed, they would be those given victory 172 And surely, only Our army will be victorious. 173 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 But then, once it alights upon them, hapless will be the awakening of those who were warned [to no avail]! 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 And see thou: they themselves shall presently see. 179 Glory be to your Lord: the Lord of Glory is far above what they attribute to Him. 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 And praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. 182
