The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 The roof raised high, 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
