The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
