The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ (Long) before them the nation of Noah belied. They belied Our worshiper saying: 'Mad' and he was reprimanded. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 And there belied the A'ad; so how dreadful have been My torment and warning! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
