In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 Zechariah said: "Lord, grant me a Sign." Said He: "Your Sign is that you shall not be able to speak to people for three nights, though you will be otherwise sound." 10 So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. 11 “O Yahya – hold the Book firmly”; and We gave him Prophethood in his infancy. (Prophet Yahya was only 2 years old at that time.) 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
