۞ But We shall say, "Assemble those who did wrong together with their associates and what they worshipped 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 And some of them will confront the others, 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 Except the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 74
