The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
