In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
