A group of his people who disbelieved him and had called the Day of Judgment a lie and whom We had made prosperous in this life, said, "He is a mere mortal like you. He eats and drinks as you do. 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be brought forth? 35 ۞ “How remote, (really) how remote is the promise you are given!” 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 He said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me." 39 God said, "Before long they will be filled with regret." 40 So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk! 41 Then after them We raised other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?" 47 They called them liars and consequently were destroyed. 48 for, indeed, We had vouchsafed revelation unto Moses in order that they might find the right way. 49 And We made Mary's son, and his mother, a Sign, and We gave them refuge on a lofty ground, a peaceful site with springs flowing in it. 50
