He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Almighty God's Truth.
