The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. 12 therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
