Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 "To bring all the wise magicians to you." 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 Then We directed Moses: 'Now you throw your rod.' And lo! it swallowed up all their false devices. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
