The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
