Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
