A company of the former peoples 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 “We have been penalised; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
