Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
