The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
