The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
