He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
