The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day resplendent 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
