The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right. 38
