Let the dead earth be a Sign for them. We gave it life and produced from it grain whereof they eat. 33 And We have placed in it gardens of dates and grapes, and We have made springs of water in it. 34 That they may eat of His fruit. And their hands have not produced it, so will they not be grateful? 35 Hallowed be He who hath created all the pairs of that which the earth groweth, and of themselves and of that which they know not! 36 And a sign for them is the night; We strip it of the day and lo, they are in darkness. 37 The sun runs to its fixed resting place; that is the decree of the Almighty, the Knower. 38 And We have appointed positions for the moon till it returns like an old branch of the date palm. 39 It is not permitted to the sun that it should overtake the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day: each in an orbit, they float. 40 And a token unto them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship, 41 And We have created for them similar (vessels) on which they ride. 42 Should We so wish, We can drown them, and there will be none to heed their cries of distress, nor will they be rescued. 43 Unless by Our benevolence, to reap advantage for a time. 44 And when it is said to them: Guard against what is before you and what is behind you, that mercy may be had on you. 45 And not a sign cometh unto them of the signs of their Lord, but they are ever backsliders therefrom. 46 And when it is said to them: Spend out of what Allah has given you, those who disbelieve say to those who believe: Shall we feed him whom, if Allah please, He could feed? You are in naught but clear error. 47 They say, "When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" 48 They will not have to wait long. When the Day of Judgment comes, it will only take a single blast of sound to strike them while they are quarrelling with one another. 49 Then they will not be able to make bequest, nor they will return to their family. 50
