The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
