Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a high Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
