The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 shun uncleanness; 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
