He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 you attended to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
