Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
