Said the Chiefs of the people of Pharaoh: "This is indeed a sorcerer well-versed. 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
