Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
