A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
