The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 when the stars shall scatter away, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 And when milch camels roam abandoned. 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 I do not need to swear by the orbiting 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And the night when it departs, 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
