Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions ranged! 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
