The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 And the roof exalted, 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
