The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
