He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
