And do not think Allah to be heedless of what the unjust do; He only respites them to a day on which the eyes shall be fixedly open, 42 when people will hurry in fright, their heads raised, their eyes unable to look around, and their hearts stunned due to the confusion (which will prevail on that Day). 43 And warn the people of a day when the punishment will come upon them, therefore the unjust will say, “O our Lord! Give us respite for a little while – for us to obey Your call and follow the Noble Messengers”; (It will be said) “So had you not sworn before that, ‘We have not to move to any place else from the earth’?” 44 You lived in the dwellings of those who wronged themselves, and it was clear to you how We dealt with them, and how We struck parables for you. 45 And of a surety they plotted their plot, and with Allah was their plot, though their plot was such as to remove thereby mountains. 46 So do not ever assume that Allah will not fulfil His promise to His Noble Messengers; indeed Allah is the Dominant, the Avenger. 47 On the Day when the earth is changed into other than the earth and the heavens, all shall come before Allah, the One, the Conqueror. 48 you will see the guilty ones bound in chains, 49 clothed in garments of black pitch, with fire veiling their faces. 50 that God may recompense every soul for its earnings; surely God is swift at the reckoning. 51 This is a message for mankind that they may take a warning from it, and may know that He is the one and only God, and that men of wisdom may reflect. 52
