A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
