In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
