He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 So you are after him! 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
