The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
