The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those on the right. 38
