He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
